[SQL] How to SELECT all rows that contain a keyword. via /r/learnprogramming

[SQL] How to SELECT all rows that contain a keyword.

How do I have SQL return all rows that contain a selected keyword. I know how to SELECT from a column but what I want to do is have SQL search all columns and return every row that contains the keyword.

For example if I have a table with two columns labeled Car_Color and Wheel_Color with the following data:

Car_Color Wheel_Color
Red Blue
Yellow Pink
Black Red

And I want to return all rows with the keyword "Red" so I get back:

Car_Color Wheel_Color
Red Blue
Black Red

Is this possible?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Remotely store CC details, but still be able to call them? via /r/learnprogramming

Remotely store CC details, but still be able to call them?

Is there a way to store credit card details with a secure 3rd party but still be able to call the details in your scripts? I want to be able to interact with the data, but not have it stored on my servers. I also don't need that 3rd party to process any payments.

[HELP] Requesting and Sending information from Unity to Android Studio and vice-versa. via /r/learnprogramming

[HELP] Requesting and Sending information from Unity to Android Studio and vice-versa.

Hello. I need some help here. I'm making a game for a school project for Android using Unity (It's kind of a Clash of Clans game).

I'm in charge of connecting the game with the DataBase. We want to use Google Sign In, so for that we are using another program that is made in Android Studio that is connected to our own DataBase and to the Google Sign In DataBase, so the user will be able to log in to his account with his Google acc. That program also is the one that provides data to the main program (Made in Unity) and the one in Unity requests data from and sends data to the 2nd program (Android Studio).

The problem here is: I don't know how to establish a communication between those 2 programs. I don't know how to establish communication between 2 programs of the same language, so I guess that would come in handy, but the main program made in Unity is written in C# and the one in Android Studio is written in Java.

I would really appreciate all help provided since it's really hard for me to find out how to do this.

Is there an interactive code kata tool that runs on your computer? via /r/learnprogramming

Is there an interactive code kata tool that runs on your computer?

I'm looking for an interactive tool that allows efficient practice of basic programming skills across a wide spectrum of languages and tools.

I've used spaced repetition software like Anki to keep knowledge fresh, but it's not as useful for certain programming tasks.

Features I'm looking for:

  • Interactive, real-time tests.
  • Easy way to add your own katas.
  • You can write your answer in your own editor or environment.

Sample Questions

  1. Return the file names that have the string "abdef" in them. (Unix)
  2. Write a query to select all users who owe more than $10 in late fees? (SQL)
  3. Write atoi.
  4. Sort the lines in a file and return all lines that begin with the letter 'w'.
  5. Fill in the method merge in this java file.
  6. Rebase branch "feature-A" onto master (git).

Does such a tool exist?

Would you watch?: Livecoding of /r/dailyprogrammer problems via /r/learnprogramming

Would you watch?: Livecoding of /r/dailyprogrammer problems

I've thought about creating a youtube channel where I record myself seing a recent /r/dailyprogrammer problem for the first time and then solve it – by thinking out loud and coding my solution.

I would use (and explain) Haskell mainly, and occasionally C++. Should someone ask for it, I could give solutions in Smalltalk.

I think this would be a nice idea for beginners to learn generall problem solving and specifics about the languages I use 🙂

What do you think?

no idea wut im doing via /r/learnprogramming

no idea wut im doing

hey guys. im a chemical engineering student about to finish my 3rd year at university. Im going to be doing research with my professor this summer. my job will be to write code that depicts the data we collect in a 3d model.

i have very basic experience with C++ and no experience with coding any 3d models. what language would be most beneficial to learn now before the summer hits. i have about a month and a half until my research job begins.

Thanks for any insight you may have
